Jonathan Hape MP3

It's no joke that Jonathan is one of my best friends, so I always make that clear. I know, like, it's about being journalistically neutral or some crap. I guess. I've actually been promoting his new EP, Herbivore since he's been gone on tour. I am expecting a decent amount of local press, which is really exciting.

He has put a couple of new MP3s from the record on his Myspace, including this one. (click 'save as' to download)

Gotta give him credit for sticking to his guns. His mid-tempo jangle-pop doesn't exactly fit in with the Columbus noise scene. Some really interesting textures and thematic stuff on this one. I think it's released on Saturday at the Shi Sha.

Dispatch features...

Here's a good feature. in today's Dispatch, written by Kathy Gray. I feel like Columbus is kind of just a huge mass of displaced people unified by a football team, and stuff like this (even if plaster isn't exactly an exciting topic) manages to give it a sense of history and heritage. Kudos.

And another from yesterday. Although this one has a more schmaltzy "going for an award of some kind" feel to it. While no Pulitzer-winner, it's still a terrific idea and it really sets a scene. It's too bad they don't do more stuff like this.

New post on RFT

WOW

I read through some of my old material here and I have to say, this was one of my favorite blogs! I mean I guess it stands to reason that I like the things that I write, but I really think self-publishing is the way to go as far as getting my biting humor and meaningful pop-culture commentary goes but...

I need to write more! Which probably means I need to do more to write about. Just put me in a place, wait for the anxiety to set in and GO!

I have been employed by CD101 and the Columbus Dispatch so one would figure I really have the "outside view" on the world of Columbus. This is totally true! I don't know crap about what's going on. I need to get on this.

Otherwise, I have been dubbed the music editor for TheMagazine, where I have been reviewing records on and off for about six months. I will get these reviews posted, ASAP, but feel free to browse in the meantime.

Hopefully this is the first in a long string of posts!

PS:, I am currently board-oping for CD101 and the Blue Jackets of the NHL. Geoge Matthews just said "seam in" and it totally sounded like "semen. HILLARIOUS!
